CANTON -- St. Lawrence University plans to build a new residence hall on campus that should be ready by the fall of 2014.
The liberal arts college said that its board of trustees has accepted the recommendation of a committee of faculty, students, staff, alumni and trustees to build a new residence hall near the Noble Center and the Quad.
The new building is expected to house 150 students and be completed for the fall semester of 2014.
Northland Associates, of Liverpool, will be the general contractor for the project. Northland has been the general contractor on a number of campus projects over the years.
St. Lawrence plans to "pay as we go," raising money for the residence hall and other future projects outlined in the recently completed Facilities Master Plan. To date, the university has raised more than $3 million for construction of the residence hall, which is expected to cost about $12 million. The Class of 2013 started the focused fundraising effort by pledging its senior gift to support the project.
