St. Lawrence Thunder peewee girls claim state title

The St. Lawrence Thunder Peewee Girls team claimed the NYSAHA Tier II Girls 12U State Championship title this past weekend in Skaneateles.

The Thunder Girls team won the State Championship on Sunday evening by outscoring the Hamburg Hawks 3-0.

The team now qualifies for the USA Hockey National Championship Tournament. The Thunder Girls will travel to Anaheim, California the week of March 30 to April 3.

The Thunder Girls started off the weekend with a 10-1 crushing of the NY Lady Islanders followed by a 2-2 tie with the Wheatfield Blades.

The Girls then handled the Camillus Cougars by a 7-0 score to advance to the semi-final round.

In the Semi’s the Thunder edged Lake Placid 2-1 in overtime to advance to the finals and the eventual matchup with highly touted Hamburg.

The Girls Thunder now takes their 32-8-3 record to Anaheim in search of a National Championship.

The USA Hockey National Tournament is an excellent opportunity for our North Country players to showcase their talents on a national stage.
