The St. Lawrence Thunder, a 13- and 14-year-old AAA hockey team, finished at the top of the Cassleman Pirates spring AAA tournament in Casselman, Ont.
Despite starting the tournament at 0-3, they rallied and took their next four games to leave the ice as champions.
They lost to the Valley Chiefs 4-3, Valley Predators 4-2 and Valley Young Guns 3-2. Their victories came against the Ottawa 67's, who the beat twice by final tallies of 3-0 and 5-2. The took down the top-seeded Valley Predators 4-3 in the semi-final round and won the championship bout against the Valley Young Guns 4-1.
The Lighting have members from both the U.S. and Canada, including Canton, Lisbon, Madrid, Massena, Morristown, Ogdensburg, Potsdam, Malone, and Redwood, as well as Embrun and Winchester, Ont.
