OGDENSBURG – The St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Task Force says the state has refused to let employees wear "SAVE SLPC" T-shirts to work, but that won’t stop other workers from showing support.
Chairman Chuck Kelly said the task force is calling on other businesses, organizations and agencies to show support at work.
Recently faculty and staff at Lincoln Elementary School chose to wear the tees to work as a show of kinship toward the SLPC employees.
Task Force Chairman Chuck Kelly emphasized the importance of the effort in a recent press release.
"When the state tries to stop its own people from standing up for these services, it only shows us more how much this region needs to stand up for itself,” he said.
The task force did not provide details on the edict stating employees could not wear the shirts to work and Office of Mental Health spokesman Benjamin Rosen did not return phone calls Tuesday.
Kelly encouraged other businesses, organizations and companies to show support for the psychiatric center by wearing the T-shirts.
“The Task Force is happy to continue working in support not only of those who need fair access to mental health services in the vast region of Northern New York, but also for the dedicated employees who have helped create the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center’s 120 year legacy of excellence in the North Country,” Kelly said.
