CANTON – The St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES School Library System has been awarded a $6,000 grant by the Northern New York Library Network (NNYLN) to make more local school yearbooks available online.
BOCES plans on having the yearbooks for school districts in the county digitized and accessible to the public. Some yearbooks were digitized with a similar grant last year, and BOCES’s goal is to continue the project.
Upon completion of the project, the yearbooks will become part of the New York Heritage online collection (www.nyheritage.org), of which the NNYLN is a contributing partner.
The local yearbooks available now on the New York Heritage site include those from Canton, Colton-Pierrepont, Madrid-Waddington, Massena, Norwood-Norfolk, Potsdam, and Brasher Falls schools.
The Northern New York Library Network, based in Potsdam, has been assisting libraries in the region develop research resources since 1965.
