CANTON -- Republican Gary Pasqua will be St. Lawrence County's next district attorney and says he will spend the next few weeks developing his staff.
"We are ecstatic about how things worked out. All the hard work from everyone paid off," he said.
Pasqua, who served as chief assistant district attorney in Franklin County before moving to Canton, says he will be meeting with the current staff and trying to "put together a good office."
Pasqua said he intends to begin accepting applications and working to choose a chief assistant.
"I have a short list of names, but I haven't reached out to them yet. I am hoping to have someone within the next two weeks," he said.
Pasqua offered appreciation to his supporters.
"I have to say thank you to everyone. So many people did such an amazing job for me including the Republican Party and the Conservative Party, especially Hank Ford, who is the chair of the Conservative Party.
Pasqua beat Democrat James Monroe in the district attorney election.
Pasqua won with 11,435 votes to Monroe's 9,012.
The results are unofficial and do not include absentee ballots.
