The rate of unemployment in St. Lawrence County was up in June, and is the highest in Upstate New York, according to New York State Department of Labor figures released today.
In St. Lawrence County, the rate of unemployment stood at 10.1 percent for June, compared with 9.5 percent in May, and 10.0 percent in June 2009.
For comparison, unemployment in Franklin County was put at 7.9 percent in June, 8.3 percent in May, and 8.2 percent in June 2009.
To the west, Jefferson County's rate was 8.1 percent in June, 8.4 percent in May, and 8.1 percent in June 2009.
In the state as a whole, only in the Bronx (12.7 percent) and Brooklyn (10.3 percent) in New York City were the rates of unemployment higher than St. Lawrence County's in June.
Overall, New York's unemployment rate for June was 8.2 percent; overall in the U.S., the rate stood at 9.6 percent in June, compared to 9.7 percent last June.
