St. Lawrence County’s ag survey online concludes Saturday, Apr. 23

The St. Lawrence County is seeking input from the farming community on the development of its Agricultural Development Plan.

The county’s Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board is encouraging farmers to complete an online survey to identify issues that should be included in the plan to help strengthen and diversify the county’s agricultural industry.

Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board Chair Bob Andrews said, “So far, we held three public forums, analyzed Agricultural Census data, and created the Agricultural Atlas. This survey will allow area farmers to tell us what is needed to take to make our agricultural economy stronger.”

Andrews explained the input received from the farming community will be used to develop the Agricultural Development Plan’s goals and strategies.

The survey is designed to ask certain questions depending on a farmer’s livelihood. “If you’re a dairy operator, you’ll be asked questions that are different from the questions that would be asked of a maple producer,” explained Andrews, “and there are questions that we want answered by all farm operators.”

The survey was made in partnership with St. Lawrence University and is available on the county’s website at https://stlawu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cATUJAJH8iouYM5 .

The survey will remain online until Saturday, April 23.

Anyone with questions about the survey can contact the County Planning Office at (315) 379-2292.
