Elizabeth Oney and Jessica Payne from Reality Check of St. Lawrence County attended the Advancing Tobacco-Free Communities Legislative Day in Albany recently.
They attended youth advocacy training by the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids where they participated in leadership activities with other Reality Check youth from across the state.
They also met with legislators to discuss their efforts to reduce tobacco marketing aimed at kids and tobacco control legislation on electronic cigarettes.
They told legislators they have seen e-cigarettes used at school and on buses, and talked about the rise in e-cigarette popularity among their peers.
They emphasized the need to include these items as a tobacco product in legislation to make them subject to the same regulations and laws that apply to traditional types of tobacco.
