St. Lawrence County will remain below the freezing mark through the weekend

Posted

Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the week, though slightly warmer than Monday and Tuesday, where temperatures dropped to more than 25 degrees below zero.

Monday morning was a particularly cold one, with temperatures as low as minus 31 in Gouverneur and wind chill readings of minus 37 in Potsdam.

Right behind Gouverneur was Fine, to the southeast, which came in at minus 26. Wanakena checked in at minus 21. Stark Falls in Colton and a station just northwest of Canton read minus 20. All of those readings came in at about 7 a.m.

At those air temperatures, and with a little bit of wind behind it, it felt like it was 37 below, according to the reading at Potsdam's airport, Damon Field, at about 6 a.m. Monday. In Madrid, at about 9:30 a.m., the reading was a wind chill of minus 36. At Massena's Andrews Field, it was minus 34. At about 8:30, one reading in Canton had it at minus 31, and a couple of miles to the northwest, minus 24.

There is a map with temperatures at http://www.weather.gov/images/btv/headlines/image1.png.

Luckily  the National Weather Service forecast for St. Lawrence County for the rest of this week doesn't have anything close to those readings.

Lows, though below zero aren't supposed to dip into double digits.
