Rain showers are moving in from the west today will raise the chance of precipitation for the entire North Country, according to the National Weather Service.

Some showers will linger over St. Lawrence County tonight through Monday morning, but as a low pressure system moves toward the North Country Monday night through Tuesday night, rain showers should become fairly widespread, NWS says.

The chance of rain is put at 60 percent today, dropping to 40 percent tonight, and increasing to 70 percent Monday night and Tuesday.

Highs will reach the mid to upper 60s today and tomorrow. Lows tonight and Monday night are expected to be in the mid 50s.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Showers likely, mainly between noon and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Tonight: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. East wind around 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Monday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 67. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Monday Night: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 54. East wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

• Tuesday: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 60. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Tuesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
