St. Lawrence County voter registration and absentee ballot deadlines approaching

Posted

This Friday, Oct. 10, is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 4 election, according to the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections.

Anyone who wishes to vote who is not registered can stop in at the Board of Elections office at 80 State Rt. 310, second floor, in Canton, 13617. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A voter wishing to register must apply in person by that date, or must have mailed a registration form postmarked by that date for the registration to be effective by Nov. 4.

A voter registration form to be filled out and mailed can be found online at www.elections.ny.gov.

If you are registered but have moved within the county, you must advise the Board of Elections of your new address. Such a notice must arrive at their offices by Oct. 15 to be effective for the election.

People who aren’t sure if they are registered can check at that same web site.

Absentee ballots can be obtained any day between now and Nov. 3 by sending an application for an absentee ballot to the board, or going and picking one up. An application can be filled out there and the voter can be given the ballot then. The last day to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Oct. 28.

Absentee ballots can delivered to the board or be mailed in for the election with a postmark no later than Monday, Nov. 3, and they must be received by the board by Nov. 12, or in the case of ballots from military personnel, by Nov. 17, to be added to the total vote.

In addition to regular office hours Monday through Friday, the board will have special hours to handle absentee ballot applications and giving out absentee ballots Saturday, Oct. 25, 9 a.m. to noon; Tuesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 30 until 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 1, 9 a.m. to noon.
