The unemployment rate in St. Lawrence County was up a bit in July while in counties to the east and west, the rate dipped slightly.
St. Lawrence remains among the counties with the highest unemployment rates in the state.
St. Lawrence County's unemployment rate stood at 11.1 percent for July, according to figures reported today by the state Labor Department. That was up .1 percent from the June rate of 11.0 percent, and higher than the 10.8 percent rate posted in July last year.
To our east, Franklin County's rate dropped from 9.8 percent in June to 9.5 percent in July, but was up from the 8.7 percent reported in July 2011.
In Jefferson County, to our west, the rate dropped from June's 9.5 percent to 9.4 percent in July; that is up over the 8.8 percent rate from July 2011.
The counties in New York State with the highest unemployment rates for July are Bronx County (13.9%), Orleans County (11.3%), St. Lawrence County (11.1%), Kings County (11.0%), Fulton County (10.9%), and Montgomery County (10.9%).
These figures have not yet been adjusted by the Labor Department for seasonal variations.
