St. Lawrence County under outlook for hazardous thunderstorms through Wednesday night

The National Weather Service has St. Lawrence County under a hazardous weather outlook through Wednesday night.

They are calling for a 30 percent chance of "heavy downpours and dangerous cloud to ground activity" in all areas of St. Lawrence County. That is expected to bring temperatures around 69 in most communities.

Wednesday brings a 30 to 50 percent chance of precipitation during the day, with temperatures around 83 degrees. 

On Wednesday night, the NWS says there is a 30 percent chance of storms with gusty winds and heavy downpours. Thermometers are expected to fall to around 60 degrees, meteorologists say.

Thursday could bring patchy fog leading to a mostly cloudy day in Canton, Gouverneur, Ogdensburg and Star Lake, with temperatures around 78 degrees. This could give way to decreasing cloud cover at night with temperatures in the mid-50s. 

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

This Afternoon - A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Southwest wind around 7 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight - A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Patchy fog between 9pm and 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph after midnight. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday - A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Southwest wind 9 to 15 mph. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday night - Patchy fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Thursday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday night - Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 56. Calm wind.

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Friday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. Light northeast wind.
