The St. Lawrence County Trappers Association will be sponsoring teens attending state Department of Environmental Conservation week-long “adventures in conservation” camps this summer.
DEC operates Camp Colby in Saranac Lake, Camp DeBruce in Sullivan County and Camp Rushford in Allegany County for ages 12 to 14. A camp in Warrensburg is designed for 15- to 17-year-olds.
The camps offer the opportunity to explore the landscape while learning about natural resource conservation.
Campers will observe wildlife, debate environmental issues, sample streams for microscopic life and explore the night sky. They will participate in fishing, bird watching, orienteering, fly-tying, canoeing, hiking, camping and hunter safety education.
Those interested in having the trappers’ association sponsor them at a DEC camp should contact Ethan Reynolds at 212-0283 by Jan. 3. A letter stating you are interested should also be sent to SLCTA , PO Box 148, Canton, NY 13617 by Jan. 9.
