OGDENSBURG -- St. Lawrence County Health Department will now fill the role of city health officer following a public hearing held Monday.
The position was recently vacated and the city opted to eliminate the position and allow the county to assume responsibility.
City Councilor Daniel Skamperle and Deputy Mayor Michael Morley both expressed concerns regarding quality of service.
City Manager Sarah Purdy said county health department would respond to emergencies and other situations as deemed necessary. She said believed the county would be at least as responsive as the previous health officer. At a previous meeting Purdy said the city was having trouble filling the position and believed the county could adequately fill the role.
The changeover had support of City Code Enforcement Officer Greg Mallet and the city fire department.
