CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District (SLC SWCD) is looking for producers in the county interested in planting cover crops.
Priority will be given to producers that have not worked with the SLC SWCD in the past to implement cover crops and/or have not planted cover crops in the last three years.
A reimbursement rate of $60 per acre will be issued for acres that are selected and planted to cover according to the plan provided to the landowner.
All land accepted for the program must be planted with row crops (corn, soybeans, vegetables, etc.) both this year and next year (2017 and 2018).
Cover crops must be planted this fall no later than Oct. 6.
Interested producers can contact Cheynne Youngs, Soil and Water Conservation district technician, at 315-386-3582 or email at cheynne.youngs@slcswcd.org to get their name on the list.
A field visit will be conducted and sites will be ranked for selection.
