CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District, 1942 Old DeKalb Rd., is now taking orders for its annual fish program.

Available species include largemouth bass, brook trout, rainbow trout, and catfish.

These fish average about five inches long and prices range from $175 to $225 per hundred depending on the species.

Minimum order is 25 fish.

Fathead minnows are also available as feed at a lower cost.

Trout will likely do best in cold ponds. Rainbow may grow to 20-24 inches and can weigh two to three pounds.

Rainbows are larger, but brooks are more aggressive.

The largemouth bass generally do well in warmer ponds and may grow to 18-19 inches and weigh four to five pounds. A bass requires eight pounds of food to gain one pound of body weight.

Catfish can get up to five to ten pounds and will tolerate a wide range of water temperatures.

Orders are being taken until Sept. 29, with pick-up on Oct. 13.

Proceeds benefit conservation projects in the county.
