CANTON -- St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District is looking for pond owners interested in grass-eating carp.
Triploid Grass Carp are fish that eat certain varieties of aquatic vegetation and can reduce levels of nuisance weeds in your pond.
They aren’t bottom feeders like the native carp in this area and they can eat their weight in vegetation every day.
Now is the time to contact the St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) if you’re interested in stocking some of these big eaters.
Orders will be taken until May 31 with anticipated delivery June 7.
A stocking permit is required from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) prior to ordering.
For more information or for an order form and a NYS DEC stocking permit application, call 386-3582 or stop by the SWCD office at 1942 Old DeKalb Road, Canton 13617.
