CANTON – St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department are warning area residents of an ongoing phone scam.
“Complaints from citizens indicate that they are receiving phone calls from an automated dialer with a message that their Bank of America charge card has been locked. Citizens are then instructed to press one, to follow up contact from an individual who will attempt to gain person information from them,” a release from deputies says.
Deputies say people need to be aware of the potential for fraudulent activity and should never give out personal information without knowing who they are dealing with. If residents have questions they should confer with someone who can be trusted.
Deputies say this could be a family member, neighbor or local law enforcement.
