CANTON -- St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department is warning of a new scam aimed at the elderly.
Sheriff’s deputies say scammers tell the victim that he or she is owed money from shopping online or at Walmart.
The scammer may tell the victim he or she is owed a large sum of money in an effort to learn more about the person’s finances or private information.
“These calls should be treated as a scam,” a release from deputies says.
Anyone who receives a similar phone call can contact the sheriff’s office at 379-2221.
