St. Lawrence County school district residents voting on school budgets Tuesday

School districts throughout St. Lawrence County are putting their school budgets and propositions before voters today, Tuesday, May 15.

General qualifications for voters include U.S. citizenship, that the voters is age 18 or older, and is a resident of the school district for at least 30 days before the election.

Ogdensburg

Ogdensburg school district voters will cast their ballots at the Edgar A. Newell, II Golden Dome at Ogdensburg Free Academy on a $45.2 million spending plan for the 2018-19 school year. Voting is from noon to 9 p.m. The district plans to have signs and staff present at Grant C. Madill Elementary School, where voting has occurred before, to direct voters to the Golden Dome, if necessary.

The ballot will also include the option to write in a candidate for a seat on the Board of Education for a five-year term, as no formal petitions were submitted to the district by the deadline.

The ballot will also include an Ogdensburg Public Library referendum for an additional $75,000 in appropriated annual funds to be decided by voters.

Colton-Pierrepont

Colton-Pierrepont Central’s $10.61 million budget will be voted on between noon to 8 p.m. in the school auditorium lobby.

Two people are on the ballot as school board candidates. Alex Bonno is running for a seat being vacated by Jeff Angleberger. Cindy McLean is running as an incumbent board member.

Massena

Qualified voters will cast ballots on Massena Central’s $54,442,331 2018-19 spending plan from noon to 8 p.m. at the Massena Community Center, 61 Beach St.

The Board of Education in April approved the budget that if passed by voters will raise $14,835,434 in taxes, just under one percent more than last year.

Hermon-DeKalb

Hermon-DeKalb Central voters will cast their ballots for or against the district’s $10,717,317 2018-19 spending plan. The poll at the school will, be open from 1 to 8 p.m.

Madrid-Waddington

Madrid-Waddington Central School District voters will also be voting between 1 and 8 p.m. in the school’s auditorium lobby on the district's $16,833,920 budget for the 2018-2019 school year.

Three of the nine school board seats are up for election. Two five-year terms and one unexpired three-year term are open. All board seats are “at large” so the two candidates receiving the highest vote totals will earn the five-year terms and the candidate with the third highest vote total will fill the unexpired three-year term, according to the district's budget newsletter.

The candidates are Gerald Molnar, Katheryn Logan, and Charles Grant, and write-in votes will be accepted.

The ballot will also include propositions on the purchase of two new 72-passenger school buses, and for approval of an annual capital outlay project of no more than $100,000 for new support piers under the front canopy columns due to rust deterioration and continuation of classroom window replacement in up to two classrooms.

Parishville-Hopkinton

The Parishville-Hopkinton Central School budget for 2018-19 is $11,488,073. There is also a school bus purchase proposition for $175,000.

There are two candidates, Ward Remington and Christina Snell, for the two open board seats

Voting is from 1 to 8 p.m.

Norwood-Norfolk

Voting on Norwood-Norfolk Central's $23,595,133 budget is from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the district board room at the school.

Three Board of Education seats are up for election. Four people will be on the ballot: Stephen Markum is running for a third term on the board; Malcolm Fiacco, James Dillon and Matthew Fiacco are looking to join the board.

There is also a resolution on the ballot for the purchase of three “student transportation vehicles,” not to exceed $251,000 in total cost.

Potsdam

Potsdam Central School District voters van cast their ballots between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The budget proposal amounts to $33,409,410.

Current school board members J. Patrick Turbett and James Hubbard are running again this year, along with candidates Joshua Fiske, Diane Pickering and David A. DeRushia. Jr.

Canton

Canton’s Hugh C. Williams High School Learning Resource Center will be open from noon to 8 p.m. for voting on the district’s $30,945,031 spending plan for 2018-19.

Three school board sets are up for election.

Voters will also be asked to cast ballots on issuing $320,000 in bonds for three school buses and Canton Free Library’s proposition to increase the tax levy used to support the library from $271,000 to $316,000 annually, according to the district’s budget newsletter.

Heuvelton

Heuvelton Central School District voters can cast thgeir ballots between 1 and 8 p.m.

Voting on Lisbon Central’s budget is from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Brasher Falls

Brasher Falls Central School District budget proposal is for 2018-19 is $24,028,858. Two board of education seats are up for election.

Voting is from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Middle School Gym of the Middle/High School building.

Gouverneur

Gouverneur Central voting is set for noon to 8 p.m., for the budget

and for three school board members.

Clifton-Fine

Polls are open in the Clifton-Fine Central School District in Star Lake from noon to 8 p.m. budget voting and school board elections.

The budget plan for 2018-19m stands at $10,818,177.

Three seats on the Board of education are open. Running are incumbent Jeremy Thompson, John R. Perrault, Joe Latimer, and Walter E. Todd.

Edwards-Knox

Edwards-Knox Central voters can cast their votes on the $36,676,839 2018-19 budget between noon and 8 p.m. at the high school auditorium near the rear entrance.

The 2018-19 spending plan amounts to $15,661,402.

Hammond

Voting in the Hammond Central district will be from 1 to 8 p.m. The school board approved March 13 putting a budget of $7,779,846 before the voters, according to online minutes.
