CANTON – St. Lawrence County’s third quarter sales tax revenue is up by $345,955, or 2.45 percent, over last year, but is still down by 1.35 percent from last year’s total take.
New York State Association of Counties released the third quarter numbers, which bring a welcome change with a small gain over last year’s third quarter, but the year to date numbers still trail 2015 by $553,455.
St. Lawrence County’s first- and second-quarter sales tax revenues were both down.
Second-quarter revenues were down by 2.17 percent from last year and about 3.3 percent for the half-year total.
In the first quarter, which runs February to April, the county saw a 4.59 percent decrease from the previous year.
On a positive note the county anticipated the decrease in sales tax after last year’s take came in well below the $58 million it had budgeted in 2015.
This year the county only budgeted to receive $55,100,000 and is on pace to come in above that if sales tax revenues remain flat or are above last year’s total.
