St. Lawrence County residents warned of frostbite, hypothermia risk as wind chills could hit -40

The National Weather Service warns St. Lawrence County residents that wind chills today may fall to -40 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to fall to -20 degrees today, with high of only -10.

Wind gusts of up to 30 mph will contribute to dangerously low temperatures throughout the weekend.

The warning is effect until Sunday at 7 p.m. The weather service warns that the extreme cold can result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not take.

The extreme temperatures follow a snow storm that left some parts of the county with well over six inches of snow.

Today: Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near -12. Wind chill values as low as -39. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around -20. Wind chill values as low as -37. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph.
