POTSDAM – An earthquake near Montreal this morning was felt as far away as St. Lawrence County.
Among those who experienced the quake was Jim Blair of Potsdam, who said he was sleeping when his home began to shake causing him to wake.
Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory said the 3.6 magnitude quake occurred at 4:05 a.m. in Ripon, Quebec, Canada, about 44 miles North of Massena.
A similar event occurred Oct. 10 when the observatory reported the quake registered a magnitude of 3.9 and was located approximately 21 miles Northeast of Montreal.
That quake was reportedly felt by Massena resident Michele Wallenhorst.
