St. Lawrence County residents are eligible to apply for five painter, decorator, & paperhanger apprenticeships through the Finishing Trades Institute of Western and Central New York.
They will recruit from March 13, 2017 through March 2, 2018
Openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for both the Central and North Country regions. This program’s jurisdiction includes the counties of Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego and St. Lawrence.
Applications can be obtained on the Finishing Trades’ website, www.dc4.org, and mailed to: FTI of W & CNY, 585 Aero Drive, Cheektowaga, NY 14225. Applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview.
The committee requires that applicants be at least 17 years old; have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED); attest in writing that they are physically capable of performing the work of the trade, which may include
climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, and towers, crawling and working in confined spaces, lifting and carrying 50 to 100 pounds or walking fast on level surfaces.
Applicants also may be required to pass a physical exam, including drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
Anyone applying must be legally able to work in the United States; possess a valid New York state driver’s license (apprentices may be required to operate company vehicles); and must have access to reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction.
Job sites are throughout western New York. Related instruction will be in Geneva at one-week intervals, four times each year.
Applicants also must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
