St. Lawrence County resident warns of mail scams

A local resident wants to warn people not to fall for a “reward” scam notice he received in the mail.

The St. Lawrence County man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told NorthCountryNow.com he received a card in the mail Thursday with “Notice of Reward” printed in red on it.

Wanting to know more, he called the number on the card and spoke with someone who wanted to know his credit card information, which he gave them. The person on the other end of the line gave him another couple of phone numbers to call to follow up later.

Thinking better of it, he didn’t wait to call the other numbers they gave him, and called right away, but none of those numbers was what he was told they were.

He called his bank and got credit card payments stopped, he said. He thinks he got it done in time, but probably won’t know until later.

He just wanted to let people know to be on the lookout for the “Notice of Reward” card, and then to ignore it.
