St. Lawrence County Republican leaders are expected to endorse a candidate for the NY-21st Congressional District Friday.
Candidates include St. Lawrence County Emergency Services Director Joseph Gilbert, DeKalb, Elise Stefanik, Willsboro and Michael Ring of Adams Center.
In an interview with the Glens Falls Post-Star Gilbert said he plans to run regardless of the party’s endorsement.
A Republican committee from each county voted separately whether to endorse a candidate and the chair from each county will bring their committee’s weighted vote an endorsement meeting Friday.
Democrats are expected to endorse a candidate sometime next week.
To date, no Democrats have announced their intent to run, though former State Sen. Darrell Aubertine and form State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava have not yet denied an interest in filling Congressman Bill Owens’ shoes.
Colton activist Don Hassig says he plans to run on the Green Party line.
