St. Lawrence County remains under hazardous weather advisory until Friday, snow showers likely New Year's Eve

The National Weather Service says St. Lawrence County remains under a hazardous weather advisory until 1 a.m. Friday with another 2 to 5 inches of snow possible.

Meteorologsts predict up to 80 percent chances of snow countywide until early Friday morning with temperatures hitting lows in the high 20s.

Friday morning brings a relief from the hazardous weather advisory in the northern part of the county. It remains in effect for the first part of the day in Star Lake and the surrounding areas. There is up to 80 percent chances of show countywide with temperatures just below 30 degrees.

Friday night brings a 30 percent chance of snow followed by decreasing clouds, the NWS says, with temperatures possibly getting down as low as 8 or 9 degrees.

New Year's Eve during the day brings a 60 percent chance of snow showers with temperatures rising to the low 30s. Nighttime weather brings a 70 percent chance of rain and snow with temperatures dropping several degrees into the high 20s.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Thursday night - Snow. Low around 28. West wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Friday - Snow showers, mainly before 5pm. Temperature falling to around 22 by 5pm. West wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Friday night - A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11. West wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday - A 50 percent chance of snow showers after 7am. Increasing clouds, with a high near 31. Light south wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Saturday night - Snow likely before 10pm, then rain and snow likely between 10pm and 3am, then snow likely after 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

New Year's Day - Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. West wind 5 to 11 mph.

Sunday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph after midnight.

Monday - Partly sunny, with a high near 34. East wind 5 to 7 mph.

Monday night - Freezing rain likely between 7pm and 11pm, then rain likely after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 29. East wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday - Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 42. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tuesday night - A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Southwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Wednesday - A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
