CANTON -- St. Lawrence County in April received $40,174 in welfare fraud settlements and disqualified 14 people from receiving more benefits from the programs they defrauded, according to Ed Tischler, an investigator with the county District Attorney’s office.
Investigators during the month probed “numerous” fraud reports, Tischler said.
“Investigations are ongoing and arrests are pending,” Tischler said in a prepared statement.
