St. Lawrence County recovered $22,854 in September welfare settlements and sanctioned 11 fraudsters from receiving further benefits, according to Ed Tischler, St. Lawrence County district attorney’s investigator.
He said investigators probed crimes including welfare fraud, offering a false instrument for filing, unlawful use of a benefit card, forgery and other state law violations.
Affected programs include SNAP (also knows as food stamps), Temporary Assistance, day care, Medicaid and HEAP.
There are ongoing investigations with arrests pending, Tischler said.
He says the public can report suspected welfare fraud to 379-2145 or by filing a complaint at www.otda.nygov/welfarefraud.
