CANTON – St. Lawrence County Operations Committee is recommending an agreement that will allow New York State Police to keep their Canton headquarters in the Public Safety Complex.
Under the agreement the county will receive $53,168 annually for 3,323 feet of office space, 900 square feet of dispatch space and 630 square feet of shared conference space.
The original lease for space with state police is dated June 8, 1993 and was renewed in March of 2004. That release expired in 2014 and since then the county and state police had trouble establishing agreement. At one point the state police were served an eviction notice.
The lease runs retroactively from April 2015 through March 31 2020. It also offers state police a renewal option for an additional five-year term that would include three percent annual increases in rent.
Although the operation committee approved the agreement it must be approved by the full board of legislators Sept. 14, before it will tale effect.
