CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County One-Stop Career Center may have funding available to assist adult –independent college students with a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant of up to $2,000 for the spring 2017 semester.
Candidates must be able to apply for financial aid as an independent student - not including any parents’ income. Students should be enrolled in a vocationally specific degree or certificate program, with an anticipated graduation within 24 months. Examples would include Accounting, Engineering, Building Trades, Computer Information Systems and most Health Care programs.
WIOA funds may only be applied to direct school costs of tuition, fees and books. WIOA funds cannot replace any TAP, PELL, VA, or any other grant or scholarship awards. Students who have these costs covered by grant or scholarship aid may not receive any WIOA award.
Students must meet WIOA eligibility guidelines, to be verified by One-Stop Career Center staff. Funding is limited and eligibility for WIOA must be completed prior to the start of the semester. Interested students should contact Larry at 229-3343 or lfetcie@stlawco.org to see if you qualify for a WIA grant.
