St. Lawrence County and two municipalities will share in more than $2 million to be doled out as housing rehabilitation grants.
The county will receive $850,000 for a countywide program through the state Community Development Block Grant.
County officials estimate it will help 25 to 30 low-income households.
The towns of Madrid and Fowler will get $500,000 each for their own housing rehab programs.
"We get these funds because our residents have low incomes, and because our housing stock is deteriorated; but we also get these funds because we go after them aggressively, as individual communities and as a county. We can’t expect this level of funding each year, but we can make a real impact with the funds that we have received in 2015,” said Keith J. Zimmerman, county planning director.
