St. Lawrence County low-income families eligible for state child care aid

Low-income working families in St. Lawrence County are eligible for state funding to offset child care expenses, Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

The New York State Child Care Block Grant allocates $1,871,243 for St. Lawrence County families in need.

Low-income child care assistance is based on family size, the family’s gross annual income and the reason for care, according to the Governor's Office.

“Working parents should not have to choose between affordable care for their children and maintaining a job,” Cuomo said. “The Child Care Block Grant is a vital resource for households across New York, and I am proud that this year we are dramatically increasing the program’s funding, helping to provide stability and quality child care for hard-working families statewide.”

The program will receive total funding of $794 million for all areas of the state.

This represents a roughly 7.5-percent increase in funding over last year, according to Cuomo.

In the 2013 fiscal year, 223,000 children received childcare subsidies statewide, according to Cuomo.
