CANTON – St. Lawrence County Legislators approved three departmental requests to fill four vacant positions Monday.
Legislators approved filling a heavy equipment operator job at the Solid Waste Department, two Youth Bureau supervisory positions and a registered nurse position at the County Health Department.
According to the resolution the nursing position was open due to a retirement in March. Funding for the job was included in the 2014 budget.
The vacant heavy equipment operator position stemmed from a termination that occurred in October of 2013. According to legislators the position is needed in order tor provide “quality customer service.”
Legislators also approved two Youth Conversation Corps Crew Supervisor positions that were vacated in Aug. 2013 and Aug. 2012.
Legislators said the positions were necessary in order to acquire grants to fund the Youth Conservation Corps Crew.
The crews help protect state parks throughout St. Lawrence County through restoration projects and educational programs.
In 2008, the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators implemented a non-essential services hiring freeze.
According to legislators, all four positions were considered essential.
