CANTON -- A county jail inmate has been charged with criminal drug possession and felony promotion of prison contraband.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies charged Christopher teRiele today with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and promoting prison contraband in the first degree, a felony.
Authorities said teRiele was in possession of a Schedule III narcotic while he was being held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.
He was arraigned in Canton Village Court. Bail was set at $5,000 cash before he was returned to the jail.
teRiele was charged in April 2011, along with three others, with theft of $558.60 in merchandise from the Potsdam Price Chopper on Market Street.
