BRASHER FALLS - St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency will seek an $11,700 grant on behalf of Tri-Town Packing Corporation.
The money for the meat packing business would come from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s Rural Business Enterprise Grant Program.
The business enterprise grants are intended to support small private businesses in rural areas, but must be secured by a non-profits, or public entities.
St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency CEO Patrick Kelly said the IDA has experience in obtaining such grants and is hopeful it can secure the funding, which will be used to expand the local business.
He said administering grants is a common function of the IDA.
A resolution passed by the agency Thursday allows IDA staff to apply for and execute the grant from the USDA.
Tri-Town Packing is a meat processing company located in Brasher Falls that employs about 15 people.
