St. Lawrence County youth will be able to partake in a youth deer hunt over Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 11 to 13, the Department of Environmental Conservation said.
During this hunt, 14- and 15-year old junior hunters may take a deer of either sex with a firearm when accompanied by a licensed adult. Both the junior and adult hunter must wear blaze orange gear, the DEC said.
Hunters may also opt to hunt with a bow.
Approximately 15,000 to 20,000 eligible junior hunters statewide are expected to participate in the 2014 youth deer hunt, according to the DEC. In the past two years, an estimated 60 percent of eligible junior hunters participated and DEC estimates they took more than 1,400 deer.
