St. Lawrence County GOP endorses Mary Rain for DA, and judge candidates

The St. Lawrence County Republican Committee has unanimously endorsed Mary Rain for her candidacy for county District Attorney at their recent spring meeting.

“Ms. Rain is highly qualified for the position and will bring over 25 years in the criminal justice system as a police officer and prosecutor for more effective prosecution and better protection for our community,” said Committee Chair Thomas Jenison.

Rain thanked the members of the committee for their endorsement promising to use her knowledge and experience to successfully prosecute criminals.

She highlighted the differences in her record as a prosecutor and current St. Lawrence County DA Nicole Duve, a Democrat, saying “the dismissal rate [for charges] is extremely high under the present administration. The citizens of St. Lawrence County deserve better and can expect better with my proven record of prosecution.”

Rain has over 10 years of experience as a prosecutor, was a police officer for 15 years, and is a certified instructor for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the New York State Fire Academy, according to the announcement from the county GOP.

The party also unanimously endorsed two Supreme Court Justice candidates, Judge Thomas Nolan and Judge Stan Pritzker.

Nolan has been a supreme court justice since 2000 and is seeking re-election to that position.

“Judge Nolan has served the Saratoga County community well for the past 13 years therefore we wholeheartedly support his bid for re-election,” Jenison said.

Pritzker has presided over Washington County Family Court since 2005 and has been an acting supreme court justice since 2007. He handles a third to a half of the county’s supreme court caseload, the GOP announcement said.

The committee also heard from three Republican candidates running for St Lawrence County Coroner: for re-election, June H Wood; and first-timers Steve Cary and Kevin Crosby. There are two open seats for coroner, so these candidates will be facing off in a Republican primary election in September.

Eric Warner, a licensed funeral director and Lisbon horse farmer, has also announced his candidacy.
