St. Lawrence County has been awarded Federal Funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

The county has been awarded $54,097, which county officials say is less than last year, to assist with emergency food, shelter and utilities for those in need.

The national board that is chaired by FEMA with representatives from the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, United Jewish Community, National Council of Churches of Christ, Salvation Army and United Way of America, made the award.

The local board must distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high need areas of the county.

The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under phase 34 of the EFSP program.

Agencies interested in applying for emergency food and shelter program funds should contact Norma Cary, St. Lawrence County Community Development Program at 315-386-1102 for an application. Applications are due back to St. Lawrence County Community Development Program, One Commerce Lane, Canton, NY 13617 by July 6, 2017.
