CANTON -- St. Lawrence County will receive $176,000 Operation Stonegarden Grant from the Department of Homeland Security to enhance border security in the region.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office will receive $73,047. Ogdensburg City Police Department will receive $53,480 of that funding and Norfolk Police will receive $1,500.
The remaining $48,760 will go to the New York State Police, New York Park Police and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The funding will be used to cover costs associated with overtime, equipment, automotive supplies, gasoline and work benefits.
According to Homeland Security, The Operation Stonegarden Program supports “enhanced cooperation and coordination among Customs and Border Protection, United States Border Patrol and local, Tribal, territorial, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.”
The program also funds investments in joint efforts to secure the United States borders along routes of ingress from international borders to include travel corridors in states bordering Mexico and Canada, as well as states and territories with international water borders.
