CANTON – St. Lawrence County received a $101,000 Operation Stonegarden grant from the Department of Homeland that will benefit the sheriff’s department and Ogdensburg City Police.
Stonegarden grants are designed to enhance coordination among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and to secure the borders with Mexico and Canada.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department will receive $51,211 and will act as a pass through agency for the Ogdensburg police, which will receive $31,966.
The remaining $18,436 will go to New York State Police operating in St. Lawrence County.
St. Lawrence County agreed to accept the funding at its Monday meeting. The money will be used for equipment purchases, overtime pay and social security at the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
