St. Lawrence County fire investigator attends arson seminar

St. Lawrence County Fire Investigator Joe Lacks of Fowler, recently attended the 39th Annual NYS Arson seminar at the Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls. Lacks has been an investigator with the counties Bureau of Fire team for over 15 years.

He along with 12 other members of the team investigate over 100 fires a year in St. Lawrence county including fires involving structures, vehicles and appliances.

The team also handles all arson cases. Each member of the team is New York State certified level two status and must maintain that status with new and updated training.

The seminar included classes and lectures on serial arsonists, forensic evidence from electronic devices, and legal classes.

The seminar was attended by over 400 law enforcement members and investigators specializing in arson.
