St. Lawrence County favorite Mary Farley of Gouverneur cruised to an easy win Tuesday in a four-way race for two Supreme Court justice seats in the sprawling fourth Judicial District.

With only tiny Hamilton County not reporting, Farley, a Republican who has served 21 years as law clerk to retiring David Demarest of Potsdam, received 74,232 votes. Where a Supreme Court justice lives in the 11-county district determines where his or her chambers will be, Farley’s win means court chambers will remain in Canton.

Martin D. Auffredou, running with Republican, Conservative and Reform party endorsements, is in second place with 63,902 votes. He has been Warren County Attorney for four years.

Former Essex County District Attorney Julie Garcia, a Lake George Democrat, earned 50,711 votes and long-time Schenectady City Court Judge Mark Blanchfield, 45, received 47,385.

The two slots have opened since Demarest retired this summer and Justice David Krogmann of Warren County has reached 70 years old, mandatory retirement age.

The sprawling fourth Judicial District covers 11 counties, from St. Lawrence County east to Clinton County and south to Saratoga and Schenectady counties.
