St. Lawrence County Emergency Services urges caution on waterways with weekend warm weather

CANTON – County officials are urging residents to take precautions as flooding is expected this weekend near rivers and streams.

Increased rainfall and expected warmer temperatures over the next few days will produce hazardous ice conditions and possible flooding in parts of the county, reports the St. Lawrence County Emergency Services office.

The weather conditions will have an impact on the area’s rivers, as the snow in higher elevations will melt. The added warmer temperatures will increase the likelihood of hazardous ice.

County emergency service advises area residents to stay off the ice in all locations, but specifically off areas with moving bodies of water.

There has been a flood warning issued by the National Weather Service for parts of the county which experience high water issues generally related to spring weather.
