St. Lawrence County Emergency Services is asking boaters to be mindful of their speeds over Memorial Day weekend as high water levels continue to cause flooding and erosion.
Hammond, Lisbon, Morristown Waddington and Ogdensburg have had the most significant damage locally as more than 40,000 sandbags have been deployed to limit the flood-related damage.
“With high water levels still being experienced, there is a concern of boat wakes creating additional problems for residents’ property along the river,” EMS Director Michael LeCuyer said in a prepared statement.
“Please be aware of your boats speed and respectful of those whose property is currently at risk due to high water levels.”
