St. Lawrence County District Attorney candidate James Monroe, Democrat, received the endorsement of the Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties’ Central Trades and Labor AFL-CIO at their Aug. 9 meeting.
Monroe, a Canton native, was an assistant district attorney under Democrat Nicole Duve and Republican Richard Manning. He also served as Duve’s chief assistant, and was appointed to special prosecutor by county court.
In addition to his prosecutorial roles, Monroe served as Ogdensburg city court judge and Canton town justice, and maintained a private law practice in Canton.
In welcoming word of the endorsement, Monroe said that, “it realign means a lot to me to have the support of working people; and it’s an honor to have this vote of confidence from such respected labor leaders.”
St. Lawrence County voters will elect a new district attorney Nov. 7. A primary is expected for voters of the Working Families and Women’s Equality parties on Sept. 12.
