CANTON – District Attorney Mary Rain says she supports Chief Assistant District Attorney David Haggard’s decision to leave.

Haggard, who has severed as Rain’s second-in-command for two years announced he would be leaving the position Tuesday. Rain says she has discussed Haggard’s departure with him and is comfortable with the transition.

“Dave and I have discussed for several months the possibility of his leaving the office. I support his decision to move on,” Rain said.

Haggard served in the position through turmoil and staffing issues that have put much pressure on the District Attorney’s office.

Rain said Malone Town Justice Frank Cositore, will take over the position.

Haggard’s resignation will become official in May.
