CANTON -- Fourteen Master Gardener volunteer trainees from Franklin and St. Lawrence counties completed an 11-week training at Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm in Canton recently.

Jan. 5 marked the end of their comprehensive course work, which covered a broad range of horticulture-related topics including fruit and vegetable production, insect identification and invasive species.

The Master Gardener Volunteer program provides training as well as ongoing support to those willing to provide educational programs in their community on a volunteer basis. Choosing projects in their areas of interest, Master Gardener Volunteers can work outdoors or in, at large public events or with small groups, with youth or elder groups, or with the general public.

The dedication and hard work of Master Gardener Volunteers has enriched communities throughout New York State since 1975. Trainings are generally held every second or third year, depending on interest. For more information, call CCE of St. Lawrence County at (315) 379-9192.
